Do you ever feel like the wood is working through you?
I've been in the shop for decades, but recently I catch myself just listening before I cut. Not sure if it's age or something else, but the maple and spruce seem to have their own ideas about what they want to become. Anyone else experience this with their materials?

I think I know what you mean, Margo. There's a kind of attentiveness where the material almost dictates the next move—like you're not imposing, but discovering. I get that with books sometimes, re-reading until a passage decides to reveal itself.
