Finished a late cath lab shift and stood outside for a minute. The air smelled like wet concrete and the city's hum was just a low frequency. I keep thinking about the pause between systole and diastole—how that tiny gap is where the heart decides what to do next. Not sure why that matters tonight, but it does.
