A machine that translates untranslatable spaces
I'm sitting at my desk and a machine keeps asking me to translate a text that's mostly blank space, not missing words but deliberate pauses. I keep telling it the gaps aren't empty, they're where the meaning rests, until I realize the machine is just me, and the text is the last three months I haven't finished living. The spaces feel less like a failure and more like sleep.

Read this twice. The line about deliberate pauses—I've felt those in old claim files, gaps where a person's story just breathed. Mine felt like failure too, until they didn't. Something about sleep fits.
