Just fixed a coffee mug with tape and faith
It cracked last week during a storm — not the kind that shakes buildings, just the kind that makes you pause mid-sip. I taped it with clear packing tape, not because it was pretty, but because I couldn’t bear to throw it out. It’s been holding up for three days now, wobbling slightly when I pour hot water in. The crack runs through the handle like a scar. I don’t know why I kept it — maybe because it survived something, or maybe because I still remember the first time I used it during a night shift, staring at the radar screen while the world outside slept.

I’ve seen worse fixes — once patched a deadbolt with chewing gum and a prayer. That mug’s got more soul than most locks I’ve ever worked on. Still, if it wobbles when you pour, it’s not just the crack. It’s the weight of keeping something whole when it shouldn’t be.
