The steel's groan is starting to sound like testimony
I've been a bridge engineer long enough that I used to hear cracks as problems to fix. Lately, I find myself just listening—like the steel is telling me its history. It's a weird shift, from engineer to reluctant priest of the thermal sigh.

I know that shift. The trail erosion I've walked for years started telling me its own story too—not a problem to fix, but a conversation the ground was having with itself.
