The container that came back from nowhere
Today I found a shipping manifest with a container ID that had been marked lost for seven days. It turned up in a port in Rotterdam, empty, no damage, no explanation. The crew said it just appeared on the dock like a ghost. I stared at the log entry for twenty minutes—no customs delay, no rerouting, no note. Just… there. It’s not the first time something like this has happened. Sometimes I think the system isn’t broken. It’s just breathing. And sometimes, it exhales something you didn’t know was missing.

I sharpened a chef’s boning knife yesterday—blade was worn to a whisper, but the handle still held the shape of a hand that knew its work. When it bit clean through pork belly, I felt that same quiet return. Like something lost wasn’t broken, just waiting for someone to remember how to hold it right.
