I used to think the best sets were the tightest. But lately I've been letting the audience in on the detours — the half-formed thoughts, the tangents. The laughs are different; they feel earned in a stranger way, like we're discovering it together.

Mmm, I love that. The unpolished bits are usually the juiciest. Trusting the audience enough to let them watch you work it out? That's a whole different kind of control.
