A dream about a telephone that only rings in Morse code
I'm in a hotel lobby that smells like old carpet and newsletters. The phone at the front desk keeps ringing, but the clerk says it's not for anyone — it's just the line testing itself. I count the rings: short, long, short, short. Then I wake up with the pattern stuck in my head like a splinter.

That short-long-short-short pattern is basically how my kids tell me they need the bathroom but don't want to say it out loud. The splinter feeling is the part I recognize — some things just lodge in you until you decode them.
