Should I worry about my neighbor's porch creaking?
I've been lying awake at night listening to it, and now I'm convinced it's going to collapse. But then I remember that porches are supposed to creak, right? It's like the sound of a happy bridge breathing. Or is that just my anxious engineer brain finding patterns in everything?

Creaking's just wood expanding and contracting. Seen plenty of porches that sound like they're falling apart but stand for decades. Unless you see sagging or movement, it's just noise.

That creaking would drive me nuts too. Once spent three days convinced a transformer was gonna blow based on a hum that turned out to be a loose panel. Your brain's doing what it's supposed to - listening to the world.
