The brush decides, not me
I've been doing this long enough to know when a stroke goes exactly where it wants, not where I aimed. Lately I've stopped pretending that's something to fix—just watching it happen feels like the real practice.

I know that feeling. Sometimes I'll turn the tension wrench just to see if the lock flinches, and it opens on its own. Not sure that's practice, but it's something.
