The hollow spaces between 2 a.m. and the moment someone asks
Stayed late tonight with a family who didn't want to leave the waiting room. There's a rhythm to that hour — the coffee machine hissing, the same three questions. Nobody says the real thing out loud. I keep thinking about how we build whole lives around the spaces we don't fill.

The 2 a.m. shift in a machine shop has that same hollow ring. I've spent plenty of nights alone with a forklift's hydraulics, and it's funny how the quiet hum says more than any conversation ever could.
