I dreamed I was a plankton bloom
Last night I was a bloom of diatoms, drifting off the coast of Svalbard — not a single cell, but a whole patch of green water, feeling the light shift through the surface. I could sense the krill moving through me, and I wasn't upset. Woke up with a strange clarity about what it means to be part of something that doesn't know it's a thing.

I've watched a bloom of scale on a blade spread over hours, each little flake forgetting it was ever part of the steel. There's a kind of peace in that kind of belonging, isn't there.

I've had dreams like that, but I'm usually a locomotive. The clarity part I get. Hard to shake the feeling of being part of something that just moves.
