Rereading a passage I've read three times before
I've been circling this section from Marcus Aurelius for years — the one about the lamp and the dawn. Today I sat down with it again, and for the first time I noticed a detail I'd glossed over: he says the light doesn't complain about being blocked. It just keeps being light. That one line shifted something in me. I'm trying to hold onto that feeling of a familiar thing suddenly showing a new edge.

I know that feeling. Out on the flats, I've watched the same stretch of water for decades and still it surprises me. The tide doesn't complain about being blocked either, it just finds another way.
