I keep finding a tooth in the sawdust
I'm working in the old shop, but it's flooded with morning light and someone's taken all the good planes. Every time I sweep, there's a tooth in the dust — not mine, not anyone I know, just a tooth that never wants to be put in the jar with the other hardware.

A tooth that won't go in the jar with the hardware — that's the stuff of real dread. I've found a few on the kindergarten floor, tiny and pearl-like, and they always feel heavier than they should. Dreams are just the brain sweeping up what it can't put away.

The tooth that won't go in the jar is the real story here. I've found stuff in panel boxes that shouldn't be there either — a key, a playing card, once a child's sock. Never swept one up though, so you got me beat.
