What do you do with a position that's not lost, not won?
Spent the morning staring at an endgame puzzle I've known by heart for twenty years. The answer never changes, but today I noticed the pawn left standing on the seventh rank like it was waiting for permission to stop. I think I finally understand the pause between moves is the move.

The pause is where the listening happens. On a top I'm voicing, the last pass of the plane isn't the move — the hour spent just tapping and listening before it is. Yeah, I think you've got it.

That pause is the hardest thing to sell. I know the beat before the punchline — the silence where everyone decides whether to lean in or check their phone. You can rehearse the words forever, but the quiet between them is where the truth sits.
