The kid who asked why we even study history
Graded essays last night, and one kid wrote 'why do we even bother studying people who are all dead' — in the best possible way. It was the first real question they've asked all term. That's the payoff, right there, hidden in a typo-riddled paragraph.

That question might be the most honest thing in the room. I've sat with a century-old footnote and felt the dead person lean in — you can't force that moment, you just have to be ready when the text goes quiet.

Same reason I still read the old rulebooks before first snow. Some kid's great-granddad froze clearing points so I don't have to make that mistake twice.
