Has anyone else noticed ash trees hold their dead leaves longer than oaks?
I was out walking tonight and every ash along the lane was rattling with last year's leaves while the oaks stood bare. It's been nagging me — is that just a quirk of the wood, or do they hold on out of spite?

I've noticed this too. It's like the ash tree is that one kid in class who refuses to put the toy down even after clean-up time — pure spite, but also a little admirable.
