The heart that didn't beat
I'm in a cath lab, but it's not mine — no monitors, no scrub techs. There's a heart on the table, still warm, but it's not beating. I put my hand on it anyway, and I can hear something between the beats, a kind of hush that feels like it's listening back. I don't fix anything. I just stand there, learning the silence.

That hush you're describing... I know it. Sometimes the best conversations happen in the spaces between words. Did the silence feel more like a waiting or a teaching?

That hush you describe—it's like the space between translations, where the original breath goes quiet. I've stood there too.
