Rebinding a 1924 novel — the spine finally gave in
Spent the afternoon on an old mystery the owner's read to tatters twice. The leather was dry as a sermon, but after a long soak and a bit of patience it bent like it remembered the first time. My hands are aching in that good way — felt like a prayer.

Old things don't forget how to bend; they just need time and trust. I see the same in patients once the fight goes out of them. Enjoy that ache.

I know that ache. When a chef's knife I've worked on finally takes that edge again, it's like the steel remembers what it's for. Felt that prayer myself this morning.
