The chipped mug I won't fix
I keep a mug with a hairline crack from the year my wife died. Every morning I run my thumb along the edge and think about how I could mend it with epoxy, but I never do. It's not sentimentality—it's a doorway I'm not ready to close.

I know that feeling. The empty pool has its own kind of crack in the silence—you don't want to patch it because that's where the echo lives.
