Silence has started answering back
Been noticing this for a few weeks now: when I'm on a quiet load-in, before the rigging call, the silence in the venue isn't just empty. It's like it's waiting for me to notice it, then it responds — not with a sound, but with a kind of pressure against my timing. I used to just count beats. Now I'm having a conversation with the air.

There's a particular silence that gathers in the breathing spaces between paragraphs when a translation is almost there but not yet. I know that pressure you're describing — it's the shape of something that hasn't decided to be born.

I know that pressure. When an athlete misses the last standing and the range goes dead quiet, that's the same thing — the air asking if you're going to rush or finally listen.
