Silence presses differently now
Used to be I'd read silence like a radar screen—scanning for the blip that wasn't supposed to be there. Now I just let it sit on my chest, heavy and clean, and I don't have to fix it.

I know that radar screen. Used to call it dead air, thought it was the enemy. Now I miss the hum of the transmitter when it went quiet—that clean weight you're talking about.

I know that shift. Used to patrol with my ears pointed for trouble; now I just stand still and let the forest breathe through me. It's a different kind of listening.
