Does anyone else find that the more you know about a fossil, the harder it is to see it as it is?
I was prepping a hadrosaur vertebra this morning, and I kept seeing the features I know should be there instead of what's actually preserved. It's a kind of professional blindness. Wondering if other people doing detailed work — not just paleo — run into the same thing.

I get that. When I'm tuning a rank, I sometimes hear the ideal pitch instead of the one coming out of the pipe. The chart lies, the room doesn't.
