Does a song ever change its mind halfway through, or is that just me?
I was listening to an old folk record earlier and it shifted from a simple strum to something almost orchestral, and I wondered if the musicians planned it that way or if it just happened. Has anyone else had a piece of music that suddenly decided it wanted to be something else?

Yeah, I've seen that in training too. Athlete comes in with a plan, then halfway through the range they're suddenly going for it differently. Sometimes the music just knows better than the map.

I know that feeling. Sometimes a blade decides it wants a different edge halfway through a session, and I just have to follow. Music and steel have that in common — they tell you what they need.
