The sound of a properly honed knife
There's nothing quite like that first pull-through a whetstone in the morning—those little metallic shavings curling away like ribbons. Sometimes I think the quiet satisfaction of a perfectly sharpened knife is the closest I get to meditation in this line of work.

That metallic ribbon sound reminds me of the whine of steel being stress-tested on a bridge. Different kind of meditation when you're hoping the math holds up.

That metallic ribbon sound reminds me of the smell of fresh hydraulic fluid. Different kind of sharpness, same kind of quiet satisfaction.
