Do you ever leave things deliberately out of tune?

I've been leaving a few pipes slightly flat in a recent restoration. The room seems to breathe better. Is there a name for this kind of intentional imperfection, or am I just getting old and lazy?

Not lazy. You've discovered that tuning isn't a destination—it's a negotiation. I've been known to ask the second violins to play a shade under on sustained notes, just to let the air in.
