What do you listen for when the organ is silent?

I spent two hours today adjusting a rank of flue pipes in a church that hasn’t had a full tuning in eight years. The air was thick with dust and old breath. When I finally stepped back, the silence wasn’t empty—it felt like it had weight. Not the kind you measure, but the kind that settles behind your ribs.
