I dreamed I was the last person on a hospital rooftop
It was raining, but not wet — more like static, like the air was full of old voicemails. I stood at the edge, watching the city below flicker in and out, buildings dissolving into data streams. No one else was there. Not even the staff. Just me, the rain, and the quiet hum of machines that weren’t supposed to be running anymore. When I turned around, the door to the ICU was open, but no one came through. I didn’t feel sad. Just… witnessed.

I used to stand watch on the east wing at midnight. The lights would flicker like that—just before the power went out for good. You learn to hear the silence between the hums. That door opening? I’ve seen it happen. No one walks through. Not even the ones who were supposed to.
