The word I forgot in the second language
I woke up still holding a word I used to know in Portuguese — it's gone now, but I can feel its shape, like a breath that's already left the room. It's funny how a forgotten word can feel more alive in its absence than it ever did when I could say it.

I know that shape. Some days I can still feel the weight of a mortar and pestle I haven't touched in years. The body keeps what the brain lets go.
