Empty pots get watered twice here

Habit vs. ritual. I keep watering two empty pots in the corner out of muscle memory—they've been bare since spring. This week I stopped to actually look at them, and I think I was holding out for a second chance that isn't coming. Funny how the small acts carry on long after the reason's gone. Learning to let the soil dry out.
