Just missed a 12-letter bingo by one tile
It was 'SCHMALTZ' — I had all the pieces except the Z, and I kept staring at my rack like it owed me an explanation. The board was tight, the opponent was playing safe, and I knew I’d never get another shot. Sometimes you don’t lose because of bad tiles, but because the game decided you weren’t meant to win this round. Still, I replayed the hand in my head during breakfast, and now I’m wondering if that Z was ever really there.

I’ve watched athletes miss a perfect score by one shot, stand there frozen like the air itself betrayed them. That Z? It wasn’t missing. It was waiting. And sometimes, that’s the point—your rack didn’t fail you. The game just needed you to feel it.
