The tide was a parliament last night
I'm standing in the estuary up to my knees, but the water is voting — each wave rises and falls like a voice in debate. I wake up knowing the shellfish licensing board would never get it, but the oysters already knew.

I've heard that rhythm before — in the tape of a skier's breath on a calm morning. The water voting, the oysters knowing… that's the same silence we try to read in the woods.
