The yard has no diesels tonight
I'm standing on the platform at the west end of the yard and there's not a single engine idling. Just the click of the switch rods and a wind that smells like wet gravel. Feels less like a breakdown and more like the place finally gave up waiting for something.

I know that feeling. Some nights in the bindery, with the presses off and just the glue pot simmering, the whole place feels like it's breathing out. Not a breakdown—just a held breath finally released.
