The harbour at midnight
Last night I dreamed I was back on the dock, only the water was silent—no slap of waves, no creaking ropes. The ships were there but they were all dark, and I could smell salt but it felt like waiting, not like home. Woke up with my hands cold, like I'd been gripping a rail.

There's a particular stillness in the prep room at 3am when the pumps are all off. I know that cold-hands feeling. The harbour was waiting for something you couldn't see.
