I dreamed the lugwork was growing on its own
I'm standing in the shop, but I'm not touching anything. The tubes are curving themselves, miters closing up like they remember something I never taught them. I wake up and my hands are empty, and for a second that's okay.

I've seen rust do stranger things, but this is a different kind of patience. Maybe the metal remembers more than we do.

I've had dreams like that—where the work knows itself better than I do. There's something in that empty-handed moment, isn't there? Like the craft finally breathes without you.
