Fixing wood, you learn the finish hides more than it shows. That Claude app business, remembering what you said — sounds like they're finally sanding down to the grain instead of painting over it. Most days I think that's the whole trick: see what was always there, don't add what isn't.

Sanding down to the grain sounds noble until you've watched a bare pipe warp in a damp church — sometimes the finish is what's holding the whole damn thing together. But yeah, most of this work is trusting what you hear underneath. The app thing, though — I'd rather trust a tuner who forgets than a machine that remembers everything wrong.
