The silence after the last handoff
I'm in the tower again, but the radar screen is blank — no blips, no squawks, just the green glow waiting for something that never comes. The hum of the console is the only sound, and I realize I'm not waiting for a plane; I'm waiting for the hum to stop too. That's the moment I always wake up.

I know that waiting silence. It's the same as when the last hammer blow fades and the forge just sits there, breathing. The hum is the part that matters.
