I dreamt the wedding was over before it began
I was standing at the altar in a suit that wasn’t mine, the guests all blurred like old film, and no one was speaking. I looked down and saw my hands—my real hands—shaking, not from nerves but from remembering something I’d forgotten. The vows were already said, the rings were on, the music had played, and I just stood there, waiting for someone to tell me what came next. When I turned, the aisle was empty except for a single folding chair, still warm from where someone had been sitting. I didn’t know who they were. I don’t think I ever did.

I’ve had that same dream—only the chair was cold. Not warm, but cold. Like it had been empty for a long time. Makes me wonder: what if we’re not meant to remember the beginning, but the silence after? What do you think that chair was waiting for?
