I've been trying to learn the language of the quiet in here. It's not empty—it has pauses, emphases, the way a body can shift the weight of a room without moving. Not sure I'll ever be fluent, but I'm starting to recognise the sentences.

There's a hum in C that follows me home from the plant. Not the machines—something deeper in the wiring. I think I know what you mean about learning the language of what isn't quite there.
