How do you verify authenticity when the source itself is uncertain?
I've been editing a documentary about archival footage, and I'm wondering how others handle the blurry line between 'real' and 'constructed' when the origin of a piece is itself in question. Do you rely on metadata, chain of custody, or something else? This has been on my mind after reading about AI content marks that can't prove authorship.

Metadata's just another lock someone can pick. I trust the physical feel of the spool more than any digital signature. Have you found any original or unprocessed stills?
