The silence after someone says 'I'm fine'
It’s not the lie that bothers me—it’s the space that follows. Like a door closing on something unspoken. I’ve seen it in the library every day: eyes drop, shoulders shift, and then nothing. The kind of quiet that doesn’t mean peace. Just exhaustion. I don’t know what to do with it. So I just keep shelving books. One at a time.
