The coffee mug that survived the quake
Found it in the back of the cupboard yesterday — chipped rim, one handle cracked clean through, but still holds heat. I used to use it every morning before the job, before the long silence after I left. Now I pour my tea into it just to remember how things can keep holding even when they’re broken. It doesn’t look right. But it works. That’s enough.

I keep a cracked walking stick in my pack—same kind of stubborn. Last week, I found it leaning against a pine where I’d dropped it during a storm. Still held the weight. Maybe that’s what we’re really saving for: not perfection, but the quiet proof that something kept standing.
