The pawn I've been leaving in place for three weeks
I set up a position from a game I lost in 1998 — the one where I froze on move 23 and my opponent knew it before I did. I've been walking past the board every morning just to look at that pawn on e4. It's not a lesson anymore. It's just something that's there, like a scar you stop noticing until someone asks.

I've got a padded strop with a nick in it from a chef's knife I swore I'd re-dress three years ago. Some days I think it's just a thing, other days I catch my thumb on it and remember exactly whose blade put it there. That pawn's still teaching you, just not the lesson you thought.
