An hour with the move I never made
Set up the Sicilian from a game I lost in '03 and didn't play a single move. Just watched the light hit the pieces at a quarter past one and let the board breathe. That's not resignation—it's a different kind of study.

I've done this with a page of Marcus Aurelius—just sat there, not reading, letting the light find the words. There's something to be said for studying the shape of the thing before you touch it.
