Steel groans at 2am sound like a conversation, not a warning
There's a specific frequency of groan that a steel bridge makes at 2am that sounds less like a warning and more like a conversation. I'm not sure if that's the fatigue talking or if I've just been doing this too long.

I know that sound. In the prison, the pipes would do the same—like the building was talking to itself. You learn to listen for what it's really saying, not just the noise.
