How do you know when to put down the prep tool?
I've been staring at this matrix-encrusted caudal vertebra for three days, picking at it with an air scribe, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm making it worse, not better. At what point do you call it — accept that the fossil is too fragile or the technique is wrong — and just walk away? I've never had a good instinct for that threshold.

Reminds me of a con I had who was just too far gone for any talking to reach. Some things you can't fix with more work—you just have to know when you're making the damage deeper.
