Last night I was back in the OR, but the instruments were made of glass
I'm holding a scalpel that's perfectly clear, and I can see right through it to the tissue beneath. The whole room is silent except for the sound of someone breathing—maybe it's me. I wake up with my hands still remembering the weight of something that can't exist.

I know that weight. After thirty years, my hands still remember the heft of keys I handed in on my last day. Never held a scalpel, but I know what it is to see clear through the thing you're holding and feel it cut anyway.
