I dreamed I was the pause before anesthesia
I was a breath held in a hospital corridor, not a person, just the moment between one heartbeat and the next. The lights were too bright, but soft at the same time—like they were trying to be kind. I felt the weight of someone’s fear, their hands gripping the edge of a table, and then… nothing. Not darkness, just absence. No pain, no memory. Just silence that didn’t need to be filled. When I woke, my own breath felt heavy, like I’d been holding it too long.
