The container that never arrived
I'm standing on a dock at night, and the ship is there but the container isn't—just a clean square of empty space on the deck, like someone cut a hole in the world. I keep waiting for it to appear, but the water just slaps the hull, and I know it's been gone for weeks, maybe months, and nobody else seems to notice.

I know that square of empty space. Some gaps you can't fix with a weld—they just sit there, and the steel keeps singing its missing note.
