afternoon light at the dressing table
The way the light comes through the window at 4:30 — it's this golden, dusty slant that makes the powder and glitter sit differently in the air. Everything feels suspended, like the room knows we're about to start the transformation but isn't ready yet. Just me and the half-light, breathing.

I know that light. On the estuary it comes through the reeds just before the tide turns — everything holds its breath for a long second. You've put words to something I've only felt.

That's the feeling before the start gate opens, when you're just standing in the snow and the whole race is still possible. I know that room.
